I love Thomas Sowell's work, did not know of this defining moment. THE MOMENT says a lot about him, and about essential personal characteristics if one is to live with integrity.
Quite a few years ago I read a column in Forbes magazine by Thomas Sowell and I was hooked. He’s a truth teller, a purveyor of common sense, a brilliant economist and a prolific writer!
Longtime fan've the amazin' Thomas Sowell! Thanks fer that link--I knew he was still givin' interviews but didn't know one could subscribe to his wisdom online ;-)
An' re the selection ya shared 'bout Cornell (still a bastion've wokeness)...yes, many of us have been faced with a rubicon...do we stay put? cross? Keep our integ-gritty but lose our jobs...? One such rubicon fer our fam was "CovidCon"--we lost our jobs (still not recovered from that but hey, we got our health), lost our home, friends--as did our girls who also lost out on so much--classes, events (a big part've our lives), professional opportunities, social life too... No regrets, natch. But even tho' none've us got jabbed.... we sho' nuff got kicked in the pants fer bein' ornery! Sowell did too an' yet he's still showin' he wuz right... a great man of integ-gritty (he's got grit too! he came from less than nuttin'!--ya likely know that story too ;-)
I'm not surprised you are a long time fan of Sowell. Then, he came from nothing - but he landed into something, and stayed getting something even when he left his job. I'm sorry your landing has not been smooth. But we will see. I would not want to be in NY these days. You definitely kept your integ-gritty.
He did he did! Thank ya 'bout our hard landin'--sadly we miss whut The Rotten Apple once wuz..."home!"...not what it's become an' yer right but not wantin' ta be in "NYShitty" as I call it-- Once mah girls are better settled (gotta lot goin' on in limbo land!) I'm'a gonna try ta find sumthin' an' mah hubby's thinkin' of doin' a re-invent himself. We're survivors (ain't we all?) an' sumtimes a surprise comes in life an' hits us--like it did Sowell jus' when he thought he could breathe a bit with a good position. I think more surprises are comin'... hopefully havin' weathered this one I'll be ready! (funny, whut duzn't git'cha--makes ya stronger!)
thanks Elsa - I haven't read Thomas Sowell, I'll go look him up!
Your title was timely in itself for me though; I'm toying with moving, but it's a difficult decision as my heart isn't 100% in it - in 2020 it was a rude awakening to what is and has been going on behind the curtain and made me inquisitive for most of my life, and spent the last 5.5 years really looking into it and pointing friends and family into also looking into things before agreeing to 'medical' interventions or believing that the powers act for our best interests, (and most of those people have turned their backs to me) - I know I can't hide from it all, but the reality of what is coming is clear to me and confirmed every day as governments and other dangerous powers make decisions that change our lives for the worse, so I want to find a quieter head space for my twilight years and follow my gut now!
"a quieter head space" - I understand the desire for that. Sometimes it's just being more peaceful in ourselves. Then it is wonderful to have a world around us be with us. I have made a physical move - while keeping a tie to where I've been. I don't know what is possible or right for you. I'm not sure what is right for anyone!!!
Sowell has a way of explaining things that everyone else makes complicated and undefined. He is 100% the anti-thesis of our rotten and corrupt government.
One of the greatest!
Just signed up for ReadSowell.com! Love the man's work!
Thanks for posting this!

Besides his adages, even his economics makes sense, making mystified things simple, which bears the same mark as my work.
Lowering interest rates on loans can trigger the final collapse, and it has been in the works since February, 2025:

" making mystified things simple, which bears the same mark as my work." agreed!!!

He said a lot of things I'd been saying even before I learned about him. :)
I am also a "failed" academic, who "couldn't keep his job" in the dance of the lemons, where many lemons were placed into "leading" positions.
Absoltely.
Thomas Sowell’s super power is speaking truth to power. Reiner as well!
